ruines
this day lives in my memories. it began as others with an early morning discussion, breakfast, and today a bus tour.. causing a feeling of claustrophobia that i at the time interpretted as perhaps the beginning of madness. our tour ended, and finally we were free. i looked longingly at the ruin that guarded the town of durnstein where our boat awaited us. let's do it.. bill says to me, and with a half hour limit, before the boat left without us we headed for the hill. phenomenal.
this is what's left of the castle where king lion heart was held and ransomed on his return from the crusades
our time was limited, so we hiked fast, and as the pictures can show, it was steep. i could not tire, instead each step returned more energy, and my mind began to clear
my only regret is that there wasn't time to contemplate this ruin, the people who had built it, fought for and against it, were imprisioned or lived within, and of course its ultimate distruction. A place that to the people at the time seemed so permanent, but came and went.. there's something to learn from that.
